WORK NOTE / 01 · KAINUU

One battery.
A long consequence.

Jugbitten did not begin with a business plan. It began with an old wristwatch, a beginner’s toolkit and a thought: “It cannot be that difficult.”

INDEPENDENT WATCH BRAND

Founded on curiosity

01 / THE START

A battery change opened the movement.

I ordered a toolkit and changed the battery in an old watch. It worked. Next I wanted to understand what happened inside the case and what else I could do myself. One small repair turned a watch from an object into a system I could learn.

02 / LEARNING

Disassemble. Repair. Learn.

I bought broken watches at auctions, repaired what I could and learned the rest by doing. The best working hours appeared during parental-leave nights while the family slept, and during quiet night shifts at work. There was no shortcut. None was needed.

03 / AN ORIGINAL MODEL

A small budget. An independent view.

The first model was made largely by hand. I designed and assembled the watches, sewed the watch pouches and sold part of my own collection to get started. The same practical approach still guides Jugbitten: design carefully, assemble attentively and say what is true.

JUG-BITTEN / 1630

I laughed at the name. It stayed.

Jug-bitten is an old English euphemism for having had a few too many. At first, the word sounded like a dignified European watch name. Once I learned its meaning, the contrast was too good to ignore. The name is allowed to smile. The watch still has to withstand use.
